RF microneedling is very tolerable for most patients. Before your treatment, a strong topical numbing cream is applied to keep you comfortable.

During the procedure, you may feel mild heat, pressure, or a prickling sensation, especially in more sensitive areas like the forehead or jawline. Most patients describe it as uncomfortable—but not painful.

 Most patients need a series of at least 3 treatments spaced about 4–6 weeks apart for best results.

You’ll often see improvement after your first session, but full results build over time as collagen increases.

As most of the energy and wound is created beneath the skin, the skin's reaction after treatment is typically minimal. Most patients experience some redness and mild swelling that may persist for 3-7 days. The skin may have a blotchy appearance or some mild pinpoint bleeding.  One of the best features of this treatment, is the minimal visible downtime.  If you are interested in expediting your healing and maximizing your results, talk with us about adding platelet derived growth factors or PRP to your treatment!

• Virtue RF Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen, improve skin structure, and tighten skin. 
• Most patients need 3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. 
• Downtime is typically 3-5 days.

• Discontinue all products containing retinol for at least 5 days, and limit sun exposure for 2-4 weeks prior to procedure.  
• Refrain from applying self-tanner for at least 1 week prior.  
• Please arrive to your appointment with clean skin.  

1. Prior to the procedure, we will address any questions you have regarding your treatment.
2. Then a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area for about 20 minutes (if needed) to reduce your discomfort. 
3. After numbing, we will gently remove the ointment and cleanse skin thoroughly.
4. The Virtue RF handpiece will be moved across your treated area(s) slowly puncturing the skin with amazing robotic technology. 
5. While the needles are in the skin, they will emit RF energy from their tips to the dermis. You may feel light pressure from the device or a slight sting,  but there’s minimal pain during the treatment as the gold needles are insulated.  
6. A few passes will be performed based on the area as well as the goal of outcome.
7. Once completed, we will gently cleanse your skin and apply post care skin boosters, protective cream, exosomes/PDGF, and/or sunscreen per your treatment plan.  Discuss these options with your provider as they can greatly enhance your treatment results.

After radiofrequency microneedling, you should take care of your skin to promote healing and minimize further irritation:  

• Avoid sun exposure: Keep your skin out of the sun for at least 2 weeks, and wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day! Pavise is an excellent choice.
• Avoid makeup: Don't wear makeup for at least 24 hours.  When you start wearing makeup, remember you have little microwounds in your skin and be mindful of introducing bacteria. Do not use old makeup sponges or brushes.  Use a clean hand instead to apply all makeup for at least 5-7 days.
• Avoid hot temperatures: Hot showers and baths can strip your skin of natural oils and damage the wounded tissue.  Don't use saunas, steam rooms, or other heat treatments for at least 24 hours.  
• Avoid touching your skin: Picking at your skin can disrupt healing and lead to infection.   
• Use a gentle cleanser: Wash your skin gently with a cleanser free of harsh chemicals or scents.  Brands we prefer are Avene Extremely Gentle, CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser, etc. 
• Avoid using exfoliating skin care: Avoid applying ‘active’ ingredients or exfoliants to skin for 3-5 days- this includes benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), retinol, Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene, scrubs, and alcohol-based toners.
• Use a moisturizer often: Keep your skin hydrated with an oil-free moisturizer.   We recommend Avene Cicalfate or Obagi REBALANCE.
• Avoid intense exercise: Don't exercise strenuously for at least 24 hours.  
• If you experience swelling: Intermittent cool compresses are ok and over the counter antihistamines such as Zyrtec may be taken daily and Benadryl at bedtime. (Use as directed.)
• Sleep on your back: Elevate your head to help minimize swelling.  Sleeping on an extra pillow for a few days may reduce morning swelling post procedure.
• Protect your investment: We cannot stress enough how important it is to protect your investment and to continue to improve your skin at home.  Medical-grade home skin care products should include a potent topical antioxidant with growth factors:  we love plated INTENSE Serum or Clinical Skin Polypeptide Firming Serum, no less than 30 SPF+ sunscreen daily, a lipid repair moisturizer such as Obagi Luxe or the Intensive Nourishing Cream by Epionce, and an exfoliant such as tretinoin, retinol, or similar.  If you are interested in simplifying this regimen, consider a line such as Defenage that can be performed in two steps and help you reach many goals.
• Scheduling: Your next Virtue RF treatment can typically be scheduled 6-8 weeks apart. 
• Remember: This treatment works by building your own collagen and elastin OVER TIME.  It is not an instant result and full outcome will develop over 3-6 months after each session.  The best results take time to achieve a beautiful and natural outcome.
