Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) is one of the most studied growth factors in other areas of medicine, known for its role in wound healing, tissue repair, and cellular regeneration. In aesthetics, PDGF is used to enhance skin rejuvenation and support hair restoration by signaling the body to repair, rebuild, and renew.

At our office, we incorporate PDGF as an advanced, off-label, Non- FDA approved aesthetic enhancement, with a strong commitment to patient education, safety, and transparency.

PDGF is a naturally occurring protein released by your body after injury to stimulate healing. It plays a critical role in:

• Collagen production 
• Cellular turnover 
• Tissue repair 
• Blood vessel formation 

In aesthetic treatments, PDGF is applied post-procedure to enhance recovery and improve overall results.  It can also be utilized in other capacities which can be reviewed further during your appointment.

We use Ariessence Pure PDGF+, a topical formulation of recombinant (lab-produced) PDGF combined with hyaluronic acid.

It is important to understand:

Ariessence is classified as a cosmetic product—not an FDA-approved drug for aesthetic use.   It is intended to improve the appearance of the skin and is not approved to treat medical conditions or alter the structure or function of the body. 

While Ariessence itself is cosmetic, the PDGF molecule has a long, well-studied medical history and is used in four FDA-approved products:

• Regranex® – used for diabetic foot ulcers (wound healing) 
• GEM 21S® – used in dental bone regeneration 
• Augment® – used in orthopedic bone repair 
• Augment® Injectable – used in surgical bone healing applications 

These approvals required extensive clinical trials demonstrating safety and effectiveness for those specific medical uses within the human body—not for cosmetic or aesthetic purposes. 

Over 5.5 million patients have been treated with PDGF-containing products in medical settings over the past few decades.

While PDGF itself is well-studied in medicine and the human body, its use in aesthetics—especially beyond topical application—is an evolving area.

• Use in aesthetic procedures is considered off-label. 
• Research in aesthetics is still developing compared to its medical use 

There is also ongoing discussion within the aesthetic community regarding:

• Appropriate use (topical vs. injectable) 
• Standardization of protocols 
• Comparisons to alternatives like PRP, PRF, and exosomes (which also lack FDA approval for aesthetic indications) 

Because of this, provider experience, technique, and patient selection are critical.
